I’ve Seen the Willow Trees – Lindsey Troy

Two years after announcing the split of Deap Vally, singer Lindsey Troy has released her first solo single, “I’ve Seen the Willow Trees.”
Channelling her connection with nature, she exchanges her previous punk vocal style for a ’70s folk meets 2010s electro-pop sound, creating a new sense of nostalgia. Showcasing the layers of her talent and versatility as an artist. The track defiantly feels more intimate, having been recorded in her home studio, Our Little Treehouse, in Eagle Rock, LA.

Being a massive Deap Vally fan for many years, I was surprised by the genre flip. Troy’s vocals take on a smooth, jazz-tinged tone that hasn’t been showcased before, backed by the dreamy, melodic finger-picking of her guitar. If I’m honest, I’m still on the fence with my opinion, hence why I’ve given it a week to mull it over. In this time, I have caught myself humming it – a good sign. However, overall I’m not sure how much of it I could listen to if she decided to take this route with a full LP.

Safe to say, I’m curious about what’s to come and will be keeping an eye on Troy as she embarks on her new creative journey.
